Back from a break

So we're just back from a holiday to the UK and France, refreshed and relaxed - if a little jet-lagged - and ready for the next round of blogging!

Some highs from the last 2 weeks:
* seeing family and friends again
* lots of good eating and drinking
* the European countryside in summer, including the birdsong
* French bakeries
* English pubs and real beer
* the A380 Airbus!

And some lows:
* surly and unhelpful staff in shops and the airport
* having to pack your own shopping bags (I know, I know...)
* closed shops and depressed town centres
* unreliable summer weather
* M25 delays (no surprise there then...)
* 'slumming it' on a Jumbo jet on the last leg!

Wimbledon finals

So Andy Murray achieved the usual British 'amost there but not quite' at Wimbledon this year, which at least saved us from a late night on Sunday staying up to watch the final live.

However, the Ladies Final on Saturday between the Williams sisters was live from 11pm and we spotted some famous faces in the crowd...


and again.... Nice hats for the hot sun!

A couple of kookaburras

As a slight change from the usual posts, here's a midweek nature piece, with two kookaburras that Sue photographed, sitting in the garden tree as the sun came up (the birds that is, not Sue!)


They are one of our favourite birds here - very wise and knowing, they 'fluff up' well, and are very good at spotting things to eat in the garden!
